Android Go: Is It A Yes Or No?

September 5, 2018

Recently, Samsung had just released its first ever device based on Android Go, or also known as Android Oreo.  Before we explain what the new device is or how it operates we have to know what the Android Oreo is.

Android Go/Oreo is a stripped down version of Android designed to run on entry-level smartphones. Its made up of three optimized areas which are the Operating System, Google Play Store, and Google apps. The Operating System is based on Android Oreo, but it’s optimized to run on smartphones with 512 MB to 1 GB of RAM. For the Google apps, they require up to 50 percent less space and perform better on low-end hardware and for the devices with them they come with pre-installed apps which are…

  • Chrome
  • Files Go
  • Gboard Go
  • Gmail Go
  • Google Assistant Go
  • Google Go
  • Google Maps Go
  • Google Play Store
  • YouTube Go

You can expect to see more optimized apps soon. Android Go devices have access to an exclusive version of the Play Store.

Now that we know what Android Go is we should definitely know whats in store for this new device Samsung is making. A few months ago though, Samsung came out with its first Android Go Phone, the Galaxy J2 Core. Samsung had stated that the phone has a lightning quick performance rate and processing power but, its not that important since, that’s what is expected from new phones. Other features include…

  • 5-inch 960 x 540 display
  • 8GB of storage
  • 8-megapixel camera
  • 5-megapixel selfie camera
  • 2,600 mAh battery

The Core is supposed to be in 3 colors which are black, gold, and blue. The new phone is now released in India selling at 6,190 Indian Rupees (which is $87.27 in U.S currency). With it being sold in India right now who knows how long it will take for it to reach the U.S. For it being Samsung’s very first phone with Android Go we’ll have to see if its worth the hype of if its another useless phone.
