Taste of Greek is a family owned restaurant that junior Ajda Mulla has contributed to since she was eight years old.
“This restaurant is a part of my legacy and it’s something that I will be able to pass down,” Ajda said. “I’m proud of it because I feel like I can call it my own. My parents created it from a small dream, and I’m able to create something bigger from it.”
Ajda’s parents, initially from Greece, came to the United States for better opportunities. After flipping between jobs, Ajda’s father came up with the idea to start a Greek food truck. After five years of running the food truck, he decided to expand and open a brick and mortar in 2020. From there, what is now Taste of Greek emerged.
“My parents transitioned from a food truck to the restaurant because they wanted a broader change and they wanted to make a larger impact because it’s a better environment when you’re serving food inside of a restaurant,” Ajda said.
The only workers in the restaurant are family members. Ajda says the hardest part about this is having to juggle customers, cooking, and bringing out orders because it puts a lot of stress on her family.
“It’s worth it in the end because the food is authentic,” Ajda said. “Working here has taught me to be grateful for everything that I have. It’s also helped me foster career skills and maintain a good work ethic.”
Ajda’s favorite meal at the restaurant is the gyro basket, which comes with a gyro wrap and fries. She also recommends the chicken and beef kebabs and the lamb shank or lamb ribs.
“When you walk into the restaurant the atmosphere is comforting, friendly, and we encourage all of our customers to feel at home when they walk in,” Ajda said.
