Freshman year can be a different experience for everyone, and not everyone has the same obstacles adapting to high school.
“It’s a lot bigger here so it’s more fun,” freshman Louis Jasso said. “The transition from middle school to high school feels amazing.”
Atascocita is known for being a big school and the hallways being compacted by 4,000 people. The school offers programs that some high schools do not offer and can showcase talents that go unnoticed.
“Adapting to freshman year is easy by communicating your needs, what helps you learn, what struggles you are having and not feeling you have to hide that,” biology teacher William Gay said. “The behaviors are improving. They are communicating a lot more together so I feel like the student life is coming back.”
Freshmen four years ago were communicating differently than the ninth graders now, according to Gay. Being a freshman is mostly about changing; you can be someone people did see in the future.
“I look forward to the football games,” freshman Desmond Aleman said. “I was a little scared this year. This school is so big and I am a little person.”
Football games can be an experience that people look forward to. Other students look toward the future.
“I look forward to graduating,” freshman Khloe Sullivan said. “My favorite class is dance. It’s fun. I was a little nervous, but not really.”
