The new Assistant Principal Jason Babcock looks forward to learning the processes of the school and getting to know each teacher and as many students as he can.
Babcock has 27 years education experience and was formerly a football coach at the same high school he graduated from. Ever since he was in high school, he wanted to be a football coach, but he stepped back from coaching to be more present with his family. Babcock had seen how successful Atascocita High School (AHS) was and was impressed by the student involvement. It piqued his interest so much that it made him want to be a part of it. Since joining AHS, Babcock has fully embraced his role.
“[I have] no regrets coming here,” Babcock said. “I enjoy being here everyday.”
Babcock wants to encourage students and make a lasting impact on their lives. In addition, he wants to provide them with the correct resources and give them the support they need.
“[I want to give students] support in the sense of someone they can bring a problem to and know they’re going to get help resolving it,” Babcock said.
Although Babcock doesn’t always have a smile on, he describes himself as friendly and attainable. His straightforward yet calm-steady presence allows him to connect with students in an authentic way. His demeanor may be calm and composed, but there’s no question about his dedication and sincerity in helping students succeed.
“I’m just not a bubbly person,” Babcock said. “I’m friendly, just not bubbly.”
He describes support as more than just offering academic guidance. He wants to be more about being someone students can approach with their problems. As a football coach, he learned the importance of game planning. Now he uses this skill as a principal. He wants to game plan yearly, set goals for teachers, help students plan and make plans for the school year to set the student where they want to be.
“Instead of a game on Friday night or Saturday night, your game is graduation day,” Babcock said.
