Coming off their performance of “Newsies” in October, the theater program is currently preparing for their upcoming show: “Our town.” The actors and actresses are showing excitement for their upcoming performance in December.
“You go home, you go over your lines and you make sure you get everything down,” junior Justin Williams said. “We are really crunching down on that time.”
Williams is playing the part of “Simon Stimson,” a choir director.
“I have always loved music, so the choir director role is very fun for me,” Williams said. “I’ve always liked playing the characters that are kind of funny because he really is just a comedic character.”
Senior Vanessa Solis has taken the role of assistant director for the play.
“Whenever the main director Stephen Aguilar isn’t there, we kind of just go scene by scene, basically overarch everything, make sure everyone’s on task and help everyone out,” Solis said.
Junior Noah Scott is playing the role of Dr. Gibbs, who is a parent. Scott is getting out of his comfort zone for this role and also believes that the play has a significant life lesson.
“I feel like [Our Town] is really relevant to kids and parents,” Scott said. “They can all find something to relate to in terms of death and young love.”
Junior Olivia Salazar is able to connect to her role as Emily and believes they have some qualities in common.
“I think I fit well with it because she’s very happy and just a very calm, sweet person, and she’s very modest too,” Salazar said. “I think I’m a happy, modest person also.”
“Our Town” was performed on December 12, 14 and 16.
“The play has a nice message about really appreciating what you have in life before it’s all gone,” Williams said. “You realize that you don’t appreciate those things in your life until you don’t have them anymore.”
