The football team is ready for the season and the expectations are high.
“The expectation is to win, just like every other year,” senior running back Tory Blaylock said. “We’re gonna go out there and put on a good showing for the school, and we can’t wait to see y’all come out and watch.”
Blaylock is prepared and focused for the upcoming season, with his mind set on winning the state championship.
“In the off season we worked on the work ethic and our overall teamwork,” Blaylock said. “We’ve been working. We have a young defense and a good team overall. I think we can make it to state this year for sure.”
Sophomore Jason Johnson also believes the team can win state this year. Johnson is a defensive end for varsity this year and is excited to play along with the seniors.
“We put in the work and I’m very confident this season we can go to state,” Johnson said. “I hope to go to state for my seniors.”
Just like Blaylock and Johnson, sophomore offensive lineman Anthony Mitchell is set on winning games and believes the team has shown improvement.
“You can expect effort on every play and expect us to be physically and mentally stronger than every team,” Mitchell said. “The schools to look out for are Summer Creek High School and North Shore.”
Although the team came up short against both teams last year, Mitchell believes they can overcome both teams this year. Blaylock, on the other hand, isn’t worried for any team going forward.
“I’m not exactly looking out for any team,” Blaylock said. “I’m gonna go out there and treat every team the same since the expectation is to win.”
