As the boys lacrosse team finished their regular season highly ranked, they advanced to the playoffs. After winning in Round 1 against Lamar High School, they also won in Round 2 against Bellaire High School, before falling short in Round 3 against Bowie High School.
“My goal was to have 170 saves this year and I accomplished that,” senior Jared Lindsay said. “Next year my plan is to continue to play lacrosse at [Brigham Young University].”
Team chemistry played a big part of this season run and it has shown, with the team advancing all the way to the super regionals round.
“Building more team chemistry is something we try to do a lot,” senior Alex Dimaala said. “We just put in work everyday and didn’t let anything get in the way of what our wills were.”
The team greatly improved this season, making a deep playoff run after not even qualifying for the playoffs last year.
“Last year we weren’t focused as a team, it was more individual, but this year we’re more of a team,” Lindsay said. “Something I would say to younger guys is to give it 100%; always give it your all.”
Even though the team fell short in the playoffs, the returning players plan to bounce back next season.
“I’m excited for the next few years to come,” sophomore Tyler Jeffcoat said. “Playing my first playoff game was exciting and I won’t take these next years for granted. We were much more prepared but the outcome wasn’t what we wanted.”
Despite the strong effort lacrosse put in this season, the team believes having more grit and commitment is going to help next year.
“[Determination] is about not giving up on what you are trying to achieve,” Dimaala said.
Even though underclassmen players are focused on next season, they believe they will miss the graduating seniors.
“It’s going to suck once they leave,” Jeffcoat said. “I have a strong connection with all of them; it’s definitely going to be different next year.”
