The Lady Eagles girls soccer team are coming off a playoff berth and although their season may not have ended the way they wanted, they fought through adversity and had more success than the teams of the past.
“[Even] though our playoff run didn’t rewrite the record books, we still achieved something that very few teams before us have,” girls soccer head coach Blake Bellow said. “[The team reached] regional semifinals for only the fourth time in program history.”
The team finished the season with 18 regular season wins and two playoff wins. Their season ended after a loss to Lamar High School in penalties. The team ended with 55 points on the season and placed second behind Summer Creek High School for the district title.
“[I think] next year we will be able to [win] district,” Sophomore Sophie Chavez said. “We will hold against ourselves with better teamwork and then we will achieve it.”
Although the girls missed out on winning district by a single point, they did earn a spot in the championship match of the I-10 Tournament. They also came back to beat Kingwood High School during the regular season 3-2 after going down early in an important match before the start of the playoffs. They battled through one of their toughest playoff opponents and knocked out Pearland High School, who had ended their season the year before.
“We didn’t just grow as players, we grew as people,” Bellow said. “That’s the kind of history worth making.”
