This year the band welcomed a new head director, Mr. Douglas Grice. He attended the University of Houston for both his undergraduate degree and M.Ed. He has 33 years of teaching experience in Pearland ISD, Coppell ISD, Dickinson ISD, Clear Creek ISD, and Friendswood ISD. He accepted the position of head director at the beginning of the school year.

“I am the Director of Bands and will teach marching band, Wind Ensemble and Concert Band, while assisting with the Wind Symphony and Symphonic Bands,” Grice said. “My main instrument is trumpet, but I also play piano, French horn, Euphonium and Trombone.”

Mr. Grice is making some minor changes to the program and assisting the band in adjusting to them.

“I plan to introduce more music to perform in the stands and we will have the band in the stands performing during the third quarter,” Grice said. “Also, we will perform for the Patriettes first [on the field] and then perform our marching drill.”

Mr. Grice is working with the band to form strong relationships.

I would like for the band to be more of a family and I would like for everyone

to be able to name and know something about each student in the band,” Grice said. “We need more unity and camaraderie.
