2021 Homecoming was a Success, Now Let’s Dance

Homecoming is a time for all students to join together to celebrate, and most importantly the seniors get one last hurrah. The theme for Homecoming is Space Jam. There were many activities that happened before the actual Homecoming dance, such as dress up days, the tailgate party on Thursday, the pep rally and then the football game.

Days of the week dress up day themes were:

  • Monday – Cowboys in Space
  • Tuesday – Sports Team Jersey
  • Wednesday – Wear Neon
  • Thursday – Dress Like a Cartoon
  • Friday – School Spirit

At the pep rally the Homecoming court was announced and the senior boys performed a dance. The student council held a tug-a-war between the classes and the juniors won. In addition, offensive lineman Kameron Dewberry was presented a sponsorship from Under Armour. At the end of the pep rally, the seniors took the coveted spirit award. Following is the Homecoming court that was presented at the pep rally.

  • Freshman Duchess: Sierra Williams
  • Sophomore Duchess: Stefania Gutierrez
  • Junior Duchess: Brenyia Thomas
  • Senior Queen Candidates: Kelsey Winslow, Hailey Fields, Zaria Tanner, Kayla Martinez, Lauren Lyak and Jordyn Chan
  • Senior King Candidates: Justin Becerra, Alvin Finnels, Zachary Chitty, Brian Willery, Kameron Dewberry and Brandon Jones

Atascocita won the Homecoming game against Kingwood 49-14 and the king and queen were crowned during halftime. Congratulations to Queen Jordyn Chan and King Zachary Chitty.

The dance was postponed to Oct. 23 after deciding to let all students attend the dance. In the beginning, only juniors and seniors were allowed to go to the dance due to COVID restrictions. However, the administration stepped in and made the decision that Homecoming was for everyone.
